Electrical Energy Storage (EES) Europe has announced its next events in Munich, as part of the exhibitions alliance the Smarter E Europe will focus on battery energy storage systems (BESS).
Global demand for BESSs will increase by a factor of three reaching 4.6TWh by 2030, according to analysis by Roland Berger and RWTH Aachen University.
The event will focus on what European manufacturers can do to stay ahead, given the challenges posed by overcapacity from Chinese manufacturers, it said.
It will call for a long-term subsidy strategy, as the main source for subsidies for research and development (R&D) in Europe was the German government’s climate and transformation fund.
This was consolidated by the German federal court in 2023, meaning no new subsidies could be provided.
EES Europe said it remains hopeful due to the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research having found $26.2 million (25 million Euros) from an alternate source to give for R&D into battery technology.
The exhibition will also feature a booth with RWTH Aachen University for discussions and networking opportunities between researchers and battery companies.
It says the focus of conversations will be on battery research, artificial intelligence in battery production and recycling.
