Electra Battery Materials has signed a Supply Chain Cooperation Agreement with Positive Materials to to advance pCAM production and strengthen the lithium-ion battery and energy storage industries across North America.
Electra is a company advancing North America’s critical minerals processing, while Positive is a Canadian company onshoring precursor cathode active material (pCAM) manufacturing technology under ‘Project Positive+’.
Electra already holds an offtake agreement with LG Energy Solution and is in early discussions with other parties to expand its refinery’s customer base. The new agreement with Positive focuses on establishing a commercial and technical relationship around Electra’s cobalt sulfate production. Both companies share a commitment to processing ethically sourced battery raw materials domestically, enhancing resilience and sustainability in the critical minerals supply chain.
“Electra is constructing North America’s first battery-grade cobalt sulfate refinery, and this agreement represents another component of building a fully localised and environmentally responsible supply chain,” said Electra CEO, Trent Mell. “Partnering with Positive allows us to explore processing synergies and jointly support customers seeking secure, transparent sourcing.”
The collaboration will explore integration of Electra’s cobalt sulfate with Positive’s planned pCAM operations in Belledune, New Brunswick, aligning product specifications and supporting downstream pathways for North American and European customers.
