Electrovaya, the lithium-ion battery technology and manufacturing company, has announced a multiple battery system product specifically designed for airport ground support equipment (GSE), developed in collaboration with an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) supplier.
These products have been made to support a broad range of electrified GSE applications, including airplane tuggers, baggage tractors, belt loaders and cargo loaders.
The battery system will feature the company’s proprietary lithium-ion infinity technology, which it claims provides the longest life cycle in the industry, increased safety and can perform in both hot and cold weather environments.
This also includes its fire prevention technology through its proprietary ceramic separators.
Electrovaya has said that the first commercial shipment of the battery systems to the OEM supplier will be made in August, which marks an expansion into the aviation sector for the company.
Dr Jeremy Dang, VP, business and project development at Electrovaya, said, “This product launch represents a major step forward in our efforts to provide high-performance, durable, and safe lithium-ion battery solutions for an expanded list of mission-critical applications. Airport GSE is an ideal application for our technology given the power demand, long product life span and safety requirement, and the growing global push for cleaner, quieter, and more efficient operations on the tarmac.”
