EnPower has announced a major investment to expand its US battery manufacturing capability, focusing on automated cell‑assembly equipment for the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and defence sectors.
The company, known for its electrode and battery cell innovation, will install new automated assembly lines at its Indianapolis headquarters, with full operation targeted for Q2 2026.
The upgrade is designed to significantly increase EnPower’s ability to supply high‑performance lithium‑ion cells to domestic customers.
Commenting on the move, CCO Drew Rossier said, “This investment is a critical step in strengthening the US battery supply chain. The growth of the US UAV market has created a critical and urgent need for high-performance, secure, and domestically sourced lithium-ion batteries. Our investment demonstrates our commitment to addressing a strategic supply chain gap and supporting our customers and partners with high performing battery cells.”
EnPower highlights several key outcomes from the investment:
- Capacity expansion: the new lines are expected to add 60MWh of annual cell‑assembly capability.
- Supply chain resilience: domestic assembly combined with the company’s 100% non‑FEOC sourcing strategy is positioned to reinforce US energy independence.
- Technological advancement: the equipment introduces enhanced electrode processing, improved quality control and full automation.
The company says the investment supports accelerating demand from UAV and defence customers and aligns with the Indiana Initiative for Drone Dominance Task Force, which aims to strengthen US leadership in drone technology.
