enSights, a provider of operational intelligence and Energy Business Management software for distributed clean energy infrastructure, has introduced the enSights Battery Economics Calculator for the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland Interconnection (PJM) market.
The tool is designed to help developers and asset owners assess the economic viability of storage projects by combining battery sizing, battery degradation parameters, revenue modelling, ROI analysis and operational assumptions within a single auditable framework. Unlike traditional modelling tools, it is integrated with the wider enSights EMS and Energy Business Management Platform, allowing investment assumptions to be carried through deployment, operations and optimisation.
Storage deployment across PJM is accelerating due to rising electricity demand, renewable integration and the need for greater grid flexibility. Yet many organisations struggle to evaluate storage opportunities because battery economics now rely on multiple value streams, including utility savings, demand charge reduction, energy arbitrage, capacity opportunities, market participation and incentives. Most tools stop at project evaluation, leaving operations, market participation and revenue tracking to separate systems, creating a gap between projected and actual returns.
The Battery Economics Calculator uses site‑specific inputs such as utility bills, tariff structures, annual consumption, peak demand and operational objectives to model sizing scenarios, evaluate revenue opportunities, generate ROI and payback recommendations, and quantify operational assumptions needed to achieve projected returns. These insights help organisations build a clear investment case and reduce uncertainty around storage economics.
