Estuary Power has commenced operations at its Escape Solar and Storage project in Lincoln County, Nevada, supplying clean energy directly to major Las Vegas casinos.
The facility combines 185MW of solar PV with 400MWh of battery energy storage, and is fully developed, constructed and owned by Estuary.
Phase one – 70MW of solar capacity – began delivering power ahead of schedule in June to Overton Power District No. 5, Caesars Entertainment, and Wynn Las Vegas under long-term PPAs. Phase two, comprising 115MW of solar and 400MWh of storage, will begin supplying MGM Resorts International later this year.
“We are proud that Escape has been constructed in Nevada, by Nevada workers, to supply Nevada customers, contributing to our state’s economic development and energy independence,” said Jill Daniel, CEO of Estuary Power.
Eric Dominguez, senior vice president of engineering and asset management of Caesars Entertainment, added, “Caesars Entertainment is committed to pursuing renewable energy sources to ensure a greener future. Over the last several years, Caesars has implemented multiple solar projects across the Empire. Our long-term contract with Escape is another step toward achieving our carbon reduction goals and reducing our environmental footprint while still creating extraordinary experiences for our guests.”
Estuary recently closed initial funding via a tax equity investment from Morgan Stanley Renewables Inc., and secured an upsising of its term loan with Denham Capital.
Bechtel Infrastructure and Power Corporation is constructing the solar arrays, with Dashiell Corporation handling substation and transmission upgrades. Tesla is supplying the battery storage system and JinkoSolar is providing TOPCon PV modules.
