A Europe-wide pilot project, implemented by the European Commission (EC), has been set up to standardise ‘green’ credentials of UPS systems.
The project is part of the EC’s Single Market for Green Products Initiative that intends to make it easier for companies selling products across Europe to meet the varying environmental performance standards for different member states. It will also make it easier for customers wanting clear labeling on environmental information.
The UPS pilot will be led by Schneider Electric to undertake testing over three years along with CEMEP-GIMELEC, Eaton, Emerson, Legrand, PEPecopassport, SGS and Socomec.
Following the test period the consortium will propose an assessment process for product and sector specific rules, product benchmarks, and effective compliance and verification systems for UPS makers wanting to sell green products in Europe.
