Exide Technologies, the European battery manufacturer, has announced the launch of a new series of Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) auxiliary batteries.
The new EK013 range is said to extend coverage in Europe by a further five million vehicles. The new product is designed to be an essential back-up battery for start-stop systems.
The EK454 and EK457, which were launched previously, are equipped with standard and thin taper terminals according to the European Norm (EN) and the Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) respectively.
Exide said the 12V 1.2Ah EK013 is engineered to support automatic drivetrain electronics and gearbox electric oil pumps.
The new AGM battery will allow motorists to drive their vehicles normally – even in the event of a malfunction or failure within the main 12V battery pack. It also supports advanced stop-start systems, it said.
Exide said the battery can be used in virtually any vehicle type.
The EK013, EK454, and EK457 batteries provide professionals with access to an additional six million vehicles across the vehicle car park, said Exide.
Vehicles that can now be fitted with Exide’s AGM EK454 and EK457 are mainly of Japanese origin, including Toyota Prius (2004–2014), Toyota Auris (2007–2012, Toyota Rav4 (2013–2015), Toyota Mirai (2015–2020), Toyota Grand Prius (2012), Lexus CT200h (2011), Mitsubishi Outlander (2012–2018), and Mazda MX5 NB (1998–2005).
