US state Iowa has approved financial assistance to entice lead-acid firm East Penn Manufacturing to build a $64 million battery manufacturing plant, distribution center and warehouse.
The state hopes to tempt the Pennsylvania based firm to build a 318,600-square-foot facility that would include auxiliary equipment buildings, a fleet service building, and personnel offices in Oelwein city.
East Penn already has a distribution centre in Oelwein.
The Iowa Economic Development Authority Board awarded the project $1.75 million in direct financial assistance as well as tax benefits through the state’s High Quality Jobs program.
In a statement, East Penn Manufacturing said the company was looking to open a new facility in Oelwein as it evaluates new plans to grow its distribution and lead-acid battery Fill, Form and Finish capabilities.
