Minerals firm VanadiumCorp Resource announced a partnership to develop vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) energy storage systems with Indian company Delectrik Systems.
The memorandum of understanding aims to develop and scale up commercial production of VRFB systems, electrolytes and model application uses.
On successful demonstration the deal, announced on 4 February, will see the Canadian firm enter into a definitive agreement with Delectik that may include manufacturing rights.
Delectrik makes vanadium redox flow battery products based on its patented stack and system design using a mature vanadium redox flow battery chemistry.
Last year, VanadiumCorp announced plans to open a vanadium redox flow battery research and development facility in Karlsruhe, Germany.
The facility will focus on next generation flow battery innovations as the company eyes the electrification of mobile applications such as vehicles, trains and ships.
