Australian flow battery firm Redflow Limited has hired a former gas and oil industry leader as it begins an in-depth review of its strategy and direction.
David Knox will join the energy storage system firm’s board of directors as the company looks to increase production of its zinc-bromine flow batteries to meet demand for its ZCell and ZBM2 batteries.
Redflow will aim to utilise Knox’s knowledge gained from eight years as managing director and CEO at Santos and, before that, senior roles with BP, Shell and ARCO.
Knox, who also sits on the board of Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIRO), said he believed Redflow’s technology had the potential to affect the way energy was used in residential and industrial applications.
He said: “We need to get much better at storing energy if we want to reduce our carbon footprint while continuing to provide affordable, reliable energy supplies.”
