The founder of Maltese R&D battery component company ABERTAX has died at the age of 81.
Werner Schmidt founded the company in 1999 with the goal of researching, designing and producing innovative battery products including Battery Management Units and Gas Release Valves.
Abertax president George Schembri said: “Werner will be missed by all, especially those who were close to him and who knew him well.
“He gave his very best competence and continuous efforts to build up the Abertax Companies. To a large extent Abertax is his achievement.
“In setting up Abertax, Werner Schmidt had deliberately transformed this enterprise into a Foundation with the key intention of ensuring lasting reliability for Abertax customers as well as for Abertax personnel.”
