Generational has begun a nationwide deployment of its electric vehicle battery testing technology across all 21 UK Motorpoint stores and the retailer’s two preparation centres.
The move follows a successful trial and is designed to support Motorpoint as it scales up its EV operations and seeks to maintain strong stockturn across its network.
Motorpoint, which holds more than 6,000 nearly new and used vehicles at any time and prepares over 65,000 annually, is adopting Generational’s compact OBD‑connected device to provide rapid, data‑driven battery health certificates. The battery testing technology is intended to strengthen transparency and give used‑EV buyers clearer insight into battery condition.
Generational’s data shows that BEVs tested with its system sold, on average, four days faster than untested models. More than 1,500 BEVs and PHEVs have now been assessed, returning an average battery health of 96.6%. Of these, 97% recorded a state of health above 90%, and 36% exceeded 99%.
Motorpoint will only retail EVs rated ‘very good’ or higher, aligning with its commitment to offering customers reliable, clearly verified information when choosing an electric model.
Oliver Phillpott, CEO of Generational, said, “Battery health is fast becoming the new mileage in the EV era. Buyers want clarity and confidence, and our technology enables industry-leading retailers like Motorpoint to deliver that in minutes.”
Curtis Ainsworth, Head of Preparation at Motorpoint, added, “Generational’s testing solution offers accurate, transparent and data-driven battery health information that’s easy for customers to understand – which ultimately helps them buy with confidence.”
The battery testing process requires minimal training and takes only minutes, producing a customer‑facing certificate that outlines verified battery condition and expected performance.
