GivEnergy is helping develop the next generation of STEM skills through its involvement in Barnsley College’s newly opened Clean Energy Training Centre.
The facility, located on the College’s STEM campus, is among the first of its kind in South Yorkshire and ranks as one of the UK’s largest dedicated clean energy training sites.
Designed to prepare learners for careers across low‑carbon and renewable sectors, the centre was officially opened by Dan Jarvis, Security Minister and MP for Barnsley North. Training bays equipped with GivEnergy batteries, inverters and energy meters give students direct, practical experience with the technologies shaping the UK’s energy transition.
Developed with Quantum Training and a group of manufacturing partners, the centre aims to close the skills gap between education and industry. It delivers hands‑on training in battery storage, solar PV, retrofit, sustainable construction and energy efficiency. Courses span Level 2 to Level 4, supporting both existing professionals seeking to upskill and those retraining for emerging clean energy roles.

Barnsley College principal David Akeroyd described the centre as “a transformative step for both Barnsley and the wider region,” while Quantum Training’s MD Maria Gonella called it “a doorway to possibility”.
