Electric vehicle global battery installation, excluding China, totalled some 165.3GWh in the first half, according to SNE Research’s Global EV and Battery Monthly Tracker. It represents a 13.1% year-on-year growth. The Korean research body said the market was maintaining growth.
In China, the government promotes the large-scale renewal of equipment and trade-ins of consumer goods as part of state policies to boost the domestic market, SNE said. In line with those state policies, the Chinese government offers government subsidies for EVs, which is leading to continuous growth of the domestic market as well as expansion of overseas exports by the Chinese EV makers such as BYD, Geely, and SAIC.
China’s CATL maintains its position as having the world’s biggest market share at 27.2%, with 44.9GWh, up 12.1% from 1H 2023. Korean companies LG Energy Solution, SK On and Samsung SDI hold second, third and fourth positions in the global ranking with market shares of 26.5%, 10.5% and 9.9% respectively.
