GSSG Chikuden has officially launched with US$400 million in backing from Vision Ridge Partners to accelerate the rollout of utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) across Japan.
Formed as a joint venture between clean energy developer GSSG Solar and sustainable asset investor Vision Ridge, the company aims to support Japan’s energy transition by developing, constructing, and operating large-scale battery storage infrastructure.
The new venture builds on GSSG Solar’s established track record in Japanese energy project development and its long-standing relationship with Vision Ridge, which first invested in the company in 2014. GSSG Chikuden enters the market with an existing pipeline of BESS projects, including grid-secured developments, and plans to grow through strategic acquisitions.
“As demand for clean power continues to rise, we are proud to launch GSSG Chikuden with the goal of supporting the urgent need for reliable, grid-scale energy storage infrastructure across the Japanese power market,” said Tomakin Archambault, managing partner and CEO of GSSG Solar.
Vision Ridge’s investment supports the consortium’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure, aligning with Japan’s national decarbonisation goals and expanding domestic energy resilience. GSSG Chikuden’s regional knowledge and technical capabilities position it to become a key player in delivering high-impact battery storage solutions across the country.
