GS Yuasa Battery Europe has celebrated a major milestone in space and climate technology, as its lithium-ion batteries powered the final launch of Japan’s H-IIA Launch Vehicle No. 50 and the onboard GOSAT-GW satellite.
The 29 June 2025 mission, led by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, marks the end of the H-IIA rocket series and features GS Yuasa Technology batteries installed in both the launch vehicle and the satellite, developed by Mitsubishi Electric.
GS Yuasa batteries have supported every H-IIA and H-IIB rocket launch since 2002, delivering over two decades of reliable power to Japanese space missions. With more than 250 spacecraft powered globally, the company’s space-grade lithium-ion technology now supports a satellite designed to monitor greenhouse gases and Earth’s water cycle.
The GOSAT-GW satellite is part of a flagship initiative from Japan’s Ministry of the Environment and Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. It will provide vital data for emissions tracking, climate forecasting, and resource management.
