GS Yuasa is shaking up its US operations to boost “design expertise using lithium, lead-acid and other battery chemistries”.
The company said it is reorganising in the US to further expand technology and products developed by its parent business in Japan.
GS Yuasa Energy Solutions (GYES) is to consolidate operations from Yuasa Battery Inc in Pennsylvania and GS Battery (USA) Inc in Georgia.
The new organisation becomes operationally effective on 1 April 2019.
GYES will concentrate its efforts in North America, South America and the Caribbean basin. GS Yuasa Energy Solutions Inc will be headquartered in Roswell, Georgia, in the facilities of GS Battery.
Additionally, GS Yuasa Lithium Power will continue to operate as a subsidiary of the new company (GYES). William Moll, current president of GYLP is planned to lead the new organisation.
Moll said: “The energy storage market is projected to be US$1 billion by 2022 and GS Yuasa Energy Solutions is uniquely positioned with our family of battery chemistries, knowledge of the energy storage and reserve power markets, plus the world class products of our parent company, GS Yuasa Corporation.”
In February 2019, the GS Yuasa group unveiled a dual chemistry energy storage system that “combines the fast response of lithium-ion with the endurance of lead-acid”.
