Japanese battery manufacturer GS Yuasa has designed a bespoke lead-acid battery to supply accessory power for the new Toyota Prius.
The 12V LN1 lead-acid battery has been modified from the European cold cranking ampere 1 EN standard to work in Japan’s climate. The LN1 also complies with JIS, the Japanese specification of the EN standard lead-acid batteries.
The standard ensures sufficient electrolyte quantity, includes a new weight-saving grid design of its electrodes, and uses a double lid with cell plugs for maintenance.
Other features include it being shorter than conventional JIS standard batteries to allow it to be used in the lower 4th generation Prius.
GS Yuasa plans to expand its sequential lineup because it is expected that there will be an increased demand for EN-standard lead-acid batteries in the Japanese market, said a statement on the company’s website GS Yuasa.
