Hydrogen sensor manufacturer H2Scan has introduced the HY-Guard RS monitor and HY-Sight display and controller for lithium-ion battery installations.
The products are designed to detect hydrogen released during battery off-gassing and give operators an earlier indication of developing faults in battery rooms, enclosures and energy storage containers.
HY-Guard RS is a compact monitor intended for installation close to the potential source of off-gassing. It provides continuous hydrogen measurements and can connect to safety and energy storage management systems through relay outputs, a 4–20mA analogue output or Modbus RTU.
Product specifications list a detection range of 0.4–5% hydrogen and a response time of 10 seconds to the first alarm when moving from air to a 5% hydrogen concentration. The monitor can be mounted on a wall, junction box or DIN rail, or installed using a magnetic mounting option.
H2Scan claims its self-calibrating sensor requires neither manual calibration nor bump testing during its operating life. The company lists a service life of more than 10 years.
HY-Sight connects multiple HY-Guard monitors to provide a central display of hydrogen concentrations and alarm conditions. It includes data logging, historical trends, relay outputs and Modbus communications. Low and high hydrogen alarms are set at 1% and 2%, respectively, according to the product information.
David Ellis, president and CEO of H2Scan, said the products “extend hydrogen monitoring directly to the locations where lithium-ion battery risk begins”.
The new equipment can also form part of the wider HY-Guard safety system covering lead-acid and nickel-cadmium batteries.
H2Scan did not disclose product pricing or delivery dates in its announcement. Its product pages list IEC 61010, CE and FCC Part 15 among the intended certifications, but state that all certifications are pending.
