Spanish OEM Himoinsa has provided diesel generators and lighting towers to a coal mine operated by Erdenes in the Gobi desert in Mongolia.
The three-phase gensets run on a stand-by application and feature a pre-heater system to ensure a promptly start at temperatures from -40°C in the winter as well as to over 35°C in the summer.
According to Himoinsa, the gensets deliver the rated power within 10s after utility failure and have an epoxy polyester powder finish to prevent corrosion.
The 9-metre high transportable lighting towers are aimed to run every night during the summer and 24/7 during the winter. “These lighting towers can operate for up to 70 hours non-stop, more than 7 nights without refueling,” said Manuel Sánchez Bada, engineering manager at Himoinsa.
The equipment will operate at Erdenes’ coa lmine in the Ömnögovi province, which has 6.4 billion tonnes of coal and is divided into six sections. Five lighting towers and one genset from Himoinsaare currently in operation at the extraction site.
The Spain-headquartered company recently supplied 25 diesel gensets and lighting towers to a BIOCOM-managed biofuel production plant in Cacuso, Angola.
