HyperStrong has commissioned a 20MWh commercial battery energy storage system (BESS) at a large-scale grain production industrial park in Malaysia, marking what the company describes as a significant milestone in its expansion into Southeast Asia’s commercial and industrial (C&I) energy storage market.
The project was developed in partnership with Malaysian clean energy company Plus Xnergy, which acted as the engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and grid integration contractor. According to HyperStrong, the installation has achieved full-capacity grid connection and entered commercial operation.
The BESS is designed to reduce electricity costs by charging during off-peak periods and discharging during periods of peak demand. HyperStrong said the system will help smooth load fluctuations, reduce maximum demand charges, improve energy utilisation and enhance power supply stability across the industrial park.
The installation uses HyperStrong’s HyperBlock III AC-coupled integrated energy storage system, which combines the DC battery system with the power conversion system (PCS). The company said the integrated design reduces installation complexity, shortens construction time and simplifies operation and maintenance while providing a smaller footprint and higher system efficiency than conventional energy storage solutions.
HyperStrong said the project combined its energy storage technology with Plus Xnergy’s local engineering and project delivery capabilities, enabling the partners to overcome site-specific challenges and complete the installation on schedule.
According to the company, the project is expected to deliver long-term electricity cost savings while helping to reduce carbon emissions through improved energy management. HyperStrong said the installation provides a model for energy storage deployment in grain processing, edible oil production and food manufacturing facilities across Southeast Asia.
The commissioning follows HyperStrong’s recent expansion in the region, including the award of a 100MW/440MWh utility-scale battery energy storage project under Malaysia’s MyBeST programme.
