Ilika, a UK company specialising in solid-state battery technology, has completed final commissioning of its automated assembly line, confirming full operational status at its Goliath pilot production facility.
The automation enhances manufacturing yield and product consistency, enabling Ilika to supply increased volumes of Goliath solid-state batteries for internal validation and customer testing. The pilot line now supports delivery of 10Ah P1.5 prototypes and initial samples of 50Ah P2 prototypes to customers for internal test programmes.
Commercial validation requires large quantities of identical cells to ensure robust data. Ilika’s facility now meets this demand, marking a key step in its solid-state battery commercialisation roadmap. To scale up 50Ah production to A-Sample volumes for automotive testing, Ilika will continue its collaboration with the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC) under the PRIMED programme, supported by the Advanced Propulsion Centre, Jaguar Land Rover and HSSMI. B-Samples will be produced with industrial-scale licensees.
Ilika remains on track to begin releasing 10Ah P1.5 prototypes in December 2025, with 50Ah cells to follow based on feedback and demand.
Graeme Purdy, CEO of Ilika, said, “The completion of the Goliath pilot line is a major milestone in our journey to commercialisation. This automation delivers the consistent performance and quality our customers require for their validation programmes, while de-risking their future scale-up to giga-scale production. This is a strong and clear step towards achieving our licencing objectives.”
Sean Gilgun, CEO of UKBIC added, “Ilika will be one of the first companies to use our new flexible pilot line, which is great news.”
