Two-and three-wheel vehicle maker TVS Motor Company has appointed lithium-ion battery expert professor Venkat Viswanathan as technical advisor for electric mobility.
The appointment aims to “significantly enhance” the company’s battery technology capabilities, with Viswanathan playing a role in guiding the company in its electric mobility journey.
TVS Motor Company is readying to commercialise its portfolio of 5-25kW two and three-wheelers within the next 24 months.

Illustrious battery background
Viswanathan is an associate professor of Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in the US, and is a leader in energy storage and lithium-ion batteries, specifically to electric vehicle and plane applications.
Prior to joining Carnegie Mellon, Viswanathan received his PhD at Stanford University and complted postdoctoral studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
In addition to his professorship, he serves as a technical advisor and Scientific Advisory Board Member at QuantumScape, which is developing next-generation solid-state lithium-metal batteries for use in electric vehicles, and is chief scientist at Aionics which is using machine-learning methods for battery materials innovation.
Viswanathan is a recipient of numerous awards, including: the National Science Foundation CAREER award, Alfred P. Sloan Fellow, ONR Young Investigator Award and MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 Finalist.
