Juniper Green Energy has commissioned 60MWh of its 100MWh merchant Battery Energy Storage System in Bikaner, Rajasthan, marking India’s first operational merchant BESS.
The project, developed through subsidiary Juniper Green Cosmic Private Limited, received NRLDC approval following successful trial operations, with commercial activity beginning on 24 December 2025.
The remaining 40MWh is expected online shortly, positioning the full installation among the country’s largest operating storage assets.
The company is also progressing a further 400MWh of BESS capacity already installed at Fatehgarh, Rajasthan, targeted for commissioning by Q1 2026. These developments form part of Juniper Green Energy’s wider strategy to integrate storage across all its solar sites connected to the ISTS grid, building a scalable renewable‑plus‑storage platform.
Battery storage is increasingly central to India’s energy transition, supporting grid stability, renewable integration and peak demand management. Commenting on the milestone, CEO Ankush Malik said, “The commissioning of our first merchant BESS underscores Juniper Green Energy’s execution strength and strategic focus on emerging opportunities in energy storage.”
Juniper Green Energy, headquartered in Delhi NCR, operates around 1.45 GWp of renewable capacity and continues to expand its portfolio across solar, wind and hybrid projects.
