Temporary power provider Aggreko deployed a series of gensets to Scottish island of Arran after severe snow storms caused two electricity pylons to collapse.
The recent storms cut power to 20,000 people on the Kintyre peninsula and the Isle of Arran in southwest Scotland.
Following an unpromising assessment of the damage, Aggreko joined forces with power utility Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) to bring in emergency power generators by chartered ferry. Local councillor John Bruce told the BBC: “It was like watching, I suppose, an army exercise as those big generators from Aggreko came off the ferries.”
The last time a storm brought down one of SSE’s pylons was during the 1987 hurricane.
