Exide Technologies has appointed two senior executives to boost efforts to upgrade its under-fire recycling facility in Vernon, California.
Thomas Strang has been hired as Vice President Environment Health & Safety and Charles Giesige is the new Vice President of Recycling Operations of the lead-acid battery manufacturer and recycler.
Strang is set to develop and manage regulatory compliance programmes at various Exide locations and supervise upgrades at the Vernon facility. Giesige will lead strategic oversight and operations of the Exide Americas recycling division. Both are going to be responsible for policy and programme developing.
“Tom and Chuck will drive a strong health and safety vision and culture at Exide,” said Robert M. Caruso, President and Chief Executive Officer of Exide Technologies. “They bring fresh perspectives and high levels of expertise to lead our efforts to upgrade our Vernon facility.”
Most recently, Strang served as Vice President of Environment Health and Safety, Regulatory Affairs and Manufacturing Excellence for Chemtura Corporation and developed the company’s safety culture. Giesige is former Vice President of Corporate Development for Columbus McKinnon Corporation and Vice President and Special Battery/Dynasty Division of Johnson Controls.
“Not only are we focused on completing the $5m in improvements that will make this recycling center a premier facility, we’re helping to ensure the health and safety of our employees and local residents”, said Strang and added: “We look forward to resuming our operations and getting our employees back to work as soon as the project is completed and tested.”
