The first commercially available lithium-ion based Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is being produced by a U.S. company.
Korean firm LG Chem’s lithium-ion batteries will be combined with software from U.S. start-up Growing Energy Labs Inca and invertors by Ideal Power in electrical equipment disitributor Gexpro’s BESS.
The 30 kW, 45kWH turnkey BESS will be available for commercial and industrial end users in the North American behind-the-meter demand charge reduction market.
The ESS system will offer ‘peak-shift’ opportunities for use in schools, hospitals, oil stations and office buildings.
The BESS should be available later this year.
