VanadiumCorp, the German subsidiary of VanadiumCorp Resource, has begun plans to target zero-emission shipping markets with next generation redox flow batteries specially designed for the marine industry.
A multidisciplinary engineering team, from Germany, Netherlands, and North America will design and engineer next-generation vanadium redox flow-battery systems for marine propulsion applications.
They aim to deliver VRFB cells and stacks of incremental sizes for testing to research and development partners in Germany.
Phase I will be managed under the direction of VanadiumCorp’s chief technology officer, Dr. Gilles Champagne and will focus on VRFB system architecture, components and parts.
In addition to this effort, R&D partners will conduct specific laboratory-level material and electrolyte tests to support the engineering work and integration of the VRFB in marine vessels.
Phase I is part of a multi-phase development schedule that will include a trilateral partnership with Conoship International Projects from the Netherlands and Vega Reederei and Partners from Germany.
