Saft doubles Indian capacity

Wed, 01/23/2013 - 17:36 -- Ruth Williams

Saft has opened a 75,000 square foot factory in Bangalore to meet the growing energy needs in India. The site at Bidadi will double the battery production capacity of Saft in India.

Amco Saft India

The French firm is partnering with Amalgamations, under the name AMCO Saft India, to produce nickel-based rechargeable industrial batteries. The factory is approved to manufacture aviation batteries for the Indian Air Force.

The site is positioned to act as a central point to support the battery-related maintenance, training and commissioning needs of local telecom providers. As the mobile network grows in the country these back-up systems at cell sites are ever more in demand.

The new factory capacity means Saft will be able to face the challenges of energy storage in India, such as providing back-up power to defense, and oil and gas industry, customers.
