Battery manufacturer Saft is to offer a long-term warranty extension option for its domestic Li-ion energy storage systems (ESS).
The modules are based on Saft’s Li-ion battery systems that deliver 2kWh of energy and up to 4kW of power. The ESS system with the 15-year warranty is integrated in Bosch’s BPT-S 5 Hybrid energy management and storage solution. The BPT-S 5 system, launched in 2012, integrates apart from Saft’s modules, a solar inverter and an energy management system.
The system is designed to ensure effective grid integration of solar PV from domestic self-consumption to megawatt scale installations that support the operation of large PV generation plant as an integral element of power networks.
Saft claims to be “the first manufacturer anywhere in the world” to offer an extended warranty of up to 15 years. The confident company said extensive tests showed how reliable the system is.
Saft presented its ESS system at Intersolar 2014 earlier this month in Munich. The warranty launch was a key initiative of the company at the solar industry exhibition. Intersolar confirmed the current high level of interest in ESS systems. The German Ministry of Environment recently (BMU) announced a €50m ($67.8m) support for residential power storage systems.
