Chinese inverter manufacturer Sungrow is partnering with renewable energy and independent power producer Super Energy to supply South-East Asia’s largest battery energy storage system (BESS) to a Solar PV-plus-storage project in Thailand.

Sungrow will supply a system comprising of 49MW PV inverters and 45MW/136MWh battery for Super Energy at an unnamed location.

The project is scheduled to start in April and be commercial by December 2022.

Once commissioned the system should provide constant power, help stabilise the Thai grid and realise Thailand’s national 4.0 strategy to develop an economic system adjusted to climate change and building a low-carbon society.

The Power Development Plan (PDP 2018-2037) set the goal of renewable power capacity of 2,7GW by 2037— 37% of the national total.

Sungrow claim its liquid-cooled energy storage technology should significantly reduce costs on delivery and installation in addition to prolonging the life of the system.

The company also believe the high protection levels of the battery cabinet and PCS enclosure will allow efficient yield to be maintained in Thailand’s often hot and wet climate.

The system will be fully integrated, including Sungrow’s energy management system (EMS) and monitoring, which simplify the post-installation operation and maintenance procedure.

Sungrow also recently won a 390MW BESS order from US project developer Key Capture Energy.
