New developments for the fast and precise filling of even the smallest lead-acid AGM batteries and a High Rate Discharge– Impedance (ACR/DCR) combi machine will be showcased by battery equipment firm CMWTEC Technologie at ELBC.
CMWTEC is a small family-operated business in the Midwest of Germany producing high-quality machines for Finishing Lines in the production of lead and lithium batteries.
For more than 43 years CMWTEC has been a forerunner with regard to developments in the battery industry.
While having its roots in the lead-acid sector, CMWTEC is also a competent and innovative partner to the lithium battery industry by helping its customers make batteries more effectively, more reliably and more economically.
New battery developments
In this article, CMWTEC draws your attention to a few new developments.
Besides speed and volumetric accuracy, the biggest challenge is to fill an AGM battery in such a way the packs inside will be soaked all the way through without any dry spots in the centre.
This is commonly done by evacuating the inside of the battery to a level of about 20% of the atmospheric pressure so the acid can be sucked into the battery.
The patented VACBOX acid filler creates a vacuum inside and outside the battery to prevent the box from deforming during the filling process.
Since filling speed and vacuum level can be controlled independently when using the VACBOX System, the filling process can be adapted to customers’ individual battery specialities in a more targeted way.
Updated flow concept
CMWTEC has recently updated the flow concept of the acid in such a way that the highest output rates at the lowest volume tolerance can be realised, thus boosting quality and speed at the same time.
Filling small batteries with small filling holes fast and precisely is a particular challenge.
Using the VACBOX System in conjunction with specially designed pre-filling chambers CMWTEC has optimised the filling process so that also in this application there will never be any dry spot inside the battery pack.
Ask CMWTEC at Booth number 105 of the ELBC exhibition how its machine concept can fill up to eight AGM batteries per minute.
More meaningful testing for better quality
The End of Line Test machine (EOL) according to the HRD principle is already well established in the market.
Also, combination machines implementing multiple units such as HRD, HVT (High Voltage Testing), Terminal brushing or greasing all the way up to marking of the box and/or terminals have become more and more sought after.
In CMWTEC’s new development it combined the HRD with an impedance measurement in one unit.
This enables the user to choose for example a testing order like ACR/DCR – HRD – ACR/DCR.
The possibility to compare the impedance results before and after the High Rate Discharge test will reveal new information about the quality of a battery.
While the typical impedance measurement is carried out at one single frequency (i.e. 1 kHz) the results from tests with multiple frequencies carried out by our SerEIS (Serial Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy) device also help to collect a magnitude of helpful data to determine the quality of a battery.
Hear more about the possibilities and advantages of this new and unique concept at Booth 105 at ELBC and in the conference paper from the firm’s VP of sales Michael Wipperfürth, with the title “Innovative multiple quality test machines in the production line”.
