Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical is set to more than double its lithium-ion secondary battery separators production capacity to meet demand.
Marketed under the Perviotm brand name, the company plans to build a new plant at its subsidiary in South Korea and boost production at its Ohe Works in Niihama, Ehime, Japan by around 1.3 times by next spring.
Perviotm is mainly mounted on cars through its use in Panasonic’s cylindrical lithium-ion secondary batteries.
Perviotm’s structure is composed of aramid as a heat-resistant layer formed on a polyolefin substrate.
In the field of battery-related components and materials, Sumitomo aims to establish a business cluster based on the Perviotm products as it continues to develop.
