Jinko ESS, the energy storage arm of Jinko Solar, has announced an agreement for a 140MWh grid-scale energy storage system (ESS) project with the UK-based energy developer AGR Renewables.
The ESS project will have 28 units of the firm’s G2 5MWh liquid-cooled containerised systems, with the first deliveries scheduled for November 2025 and commissioning set for Q1 2026. It is engineered for the UK’s environmental conditions, which includes temperatures to -10˚C in high-latitude areas and damp weather.
According to the company, the G2 system has liquid-cooling technology to ensure that cell temperature stays within a ±2.5°C difference, while maintaining over 94% round-trip efficiency even in extreme cold. It also has an IP55 rating for rain and snow, and an integrated AI cloud management platform to optimise the charge and discharge of the cells in order to maximise the use of energy.
Oliver Breidt, founder, AGR, said: “We are pleased to partner with one of the industry’s leading utility scale battery storage system suppliers to support the delivery of our growing portfolio in the UK. Securing this contract marks a significant milestone in de-risking project delivery and reinforces AGR’s long term vision and commitment to advancing energy storage infrastructure within the UK.”
Jinko ESS also announced a strategic partnership with the Mauritania-based bottled water firm TIJIRIT to deploy an integrated industrial and commercial solar and ESS at its factory.
This will include 10 sets of SunGiga 215kWh ESS which adds to a total duration of 2.15MWh and 1.3MW of its Tiger Neo PV modules. The firm said the factory’s diesel generators will be completely replaced. It is a customised solution designed to ensure a constant temperature and humidity with clean power.
Asif SW, head of Middle East, Africa and Central Asia, JinkoESS, said: “The SunGiga system’s intelligent regulation capabilities coupled with Tiger Neo modules’ 85% bi-facial ratio provides the TIJIRIT factory with 24/7 stable and clean power in an off-grid area. This successful model will be extended to 11 off-grid industrial parks across North Africa, setting a benchmark for commercial and industrial energy transition in Africa. Jinko ESS will continue empowering the MEA region with innovative solutions.”
