The Paper Battery Company from New York has begun a partnership with TWS Industrial, a manufacturer of lithium-based battery products, to incorporate an ultracapacitor into lithium-ion batteries to boost performance.
Called the PowerPatch, the ultracapacitor is wrapped around the lithium-ion battery to make hybrid storage devices ranging from 2V to 7.8V that offers better peak power performance, longer run time and cycle life.
The battery is based on custom printing inks, which together with advanced printing techniques can be used in ultra-thin batteries or larger stacked cells. The companies claim technology makes the battery last longer without impacting size or cost.
The two companies plan to next develop a range of batteries using the PowerPatch, for consumer electronics.
The collaborated experience of manufacturing battery products will accelerate the paper battery to production to commercial level.
