South Korean power plant builder Doosan Enerbility is planning a battery recycling subsidiary, according to local media reports. This is to target rapid growth on the back of a booming global electric vehicle (EV) industry.
The Korea Economic Daily reported that Doosan Enerbility’s board of directors approved the establishment of Doosan Recycle Solution. It will reprocess waste batteries to collect lithium.
“We decided to found a subsidiary with an independent management system to dominate business opportunities in the rapidly growing battery recycling market,” said Doosan Enerbility vice president of strategy Choi Jaehyuk, the paper reported. Jaehyuk has been leading work on the new subsidiary.
“We aim to accelerate business growth with fast decision-making and expertise, utilising our own competitive technology,” Jaehyuk said.
Doosan Recycle Solution is planning to build production facilities to start processing about 3,000 tons of materials per year. Start-up is set for the second half of 2025, the report said.
The company also aims to expand its business in cooperation with raw materials suppliers.
