Swedish-American energy storage system company Northstar will supply its Ultra High Performance pure lead AGM batteries to a major truck maker.
The batteries will be fitted into the next-generation Freightliner Cascadia Truck following a collaborative deal with Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA).
The partnership is worth around $500million and positions Northstar, which is headquartered in Stockholm and owned by Swedish private equity firm Altor, into the heavy duty truck sector.
NorthStar is also available as a replacement battery through the DTNA dealer network across North America.
A company spokesman said: “For Northstar the agreement is a real breakthrough for the division Transportation as Northstar’s solution underwent Daimler’s very comprehensive world-class audit and testing process in competition with other well-known brands to gain approval.
“Northstar’s expertise in this area comes from their development of solutions for Energy Storage Systems addressed to energy-intensive businesses such as mobile operators´ base stations.
“Now NorthStar has brought their expertise to the heavy duty truck side where the demands on battery power constantly increases due to increased government no-idle regulations worldwide plus the increasingly power-hungry technology in trucks.”
