LG Energy Solution announced a memorandum of understanding with Silicon Valley-based mobility innovator Bear Robotics to be its exclusive supplier of cylindrical robotic battery cells. They will also work together on technological innovation.
The agreement confirms LGES as sole supplier of 2170 batteries for Bear Robotics’ flagship robots, such as Servi Plus and Carti 100, from next year. The agreement also promises cooperation on new technologies and partnership in the growing global robot market.
Bear Robotics makes AI-powered robotics and “the world’s first” autonomous serving robots for factories and restaurants, etc. It operates in 20 countries.
South Korean LGES said service and logistics robots operate in high-traffic public spaces, where safety is paramount. It applies differentiated materials and technologies such as high-quality NCMA cathode materials and reinforced ceramic-coated separators. The company said it will actively pursue new and innovative opportunities in global robotics.
Earlier this month, LGES agreed a deal with automaker Rivian to supply advanced 4695 cylindrical batteries for over five years, totalling 67GWh. They claim over six times the capacity of the existing 2170 cylindrical batteries, giving higher energy density, improved space efficiency and enhanced safety.
They will be used in Rivian’s R2 model for the North American market.
