Indian battery recycler Lohum has received the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) Certification from the Indian government in recognition of its R&D for critical mineral production and integrated battery lifecycle management.
It said it invests 5% of its annual revenue and 10% of its total workforce into R&D. It has a team of over 100 R&D scientists.
The certification enables Lohum to access additional resources for its ongoing research, including exemptions on tax and customs duties for R&D expenses.
Dr. Chidambaram Mandan, Head of R&D & quality control at Lohum, said: “This milestone is a badge of honour for our commitment to innovating deep-tech solutions that build and advance a circular economy for a clean future.”
Lohum is India’s largest producer and processor of sustainable critical minerals through battery repurposing, material recycling and refining.
It can process 5GWh of critical materials annually. This includes the capacity to annually produce battery-grade nickel, cobalt and lithium across seven facilities in India, with two more in development across Tamil Nadu and Telangana.
The company is expanding globally and has joint ventures in the UAE and the US and is looking to set up in the EU.
