Parts of the industry were not expecting to see solid-state lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicle for at least five years— however, Mercedes-Benz is delivering e-busses fitted with the technology.
Mercedes-Benz’s electric-bus eCitaro G will be powered with cobalt and nickel-free technology from French battery manufacturer Blue Solutions.
Blue Solutions claims the batteries have a lifespan of 4,000 cycles, withstand free floating (100% charge) without damaging the battery and an operating range of -20-60oC.
The new eCitaro G is the first series production city bus in its category anywhere in the world to be equipped with solid-state batteries.
The solid-state battery in the eCitaro has a basic guarantee for up to 10 years or up to 280MWh energy throughput per battery pack.
