With a plethora of lithium energy storage systems being launched onto the residential, industrial and grid-scale markets it is with a degree of surprise BBB reports on a metal-air system coming on stream.
The 45MW turn-key zinc-air mini-grid system will be connected to photovoltaic panels to supply energy to 100 remote villages on Madagascar.
The fact that the technology has issues with cyclability, dendrites and recharging has not stopped the Government of the Republic of Madagascar signing a memorandum of understanding to partner US firm Fluidic Energy in the scheme.
The village mini-grid systems will use more than 7.5MWp of photovoltaic panels to provide clean electricity for the first time to more than 400,000 people in rural areas of the country.
The project will be one of the largest off-grid rural electrification projects on the continent of Africa.
Alongside this project Fluidic Energy will look at possibly setting up a manufacturing infrastructure in Madagascar in partnership with Henri Fraise Fils & Cie.
