Norway’s Morrow Batteries has opened Europe’s first LFP gigafactory. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre cut the ribbon on 16 August.
The company said it will be able to produce up to three million battery cells annually, or 1GWh capacity. Test production has already started and it will fine-tune production equipment to achieve serial production quality over the following months. Commercial production will commence at the end of the year.
Morrow has produced and shipped thousands of LFP sample cells to potential customers since last November for testing and validation at its customer qualification line. It said it can now deliver a commercially viable, thoroughly tested, competitive LFP product.
It claims Scandinavia’s largest battery R&D centre.
