Nano One, the cathode active materials (CAM) manufacturer, has installed and commissioned a proprietary agitator for its commercial-sized 20,000 litre One-Pot reactor at its production facility in Québec, Canada.
The company said that the agitator was custom-designed to support its production scale-up, and that it will increase throughput capacity by approximately 50%.
It will also reduce costs of production, being engineered to improve the mixing dynamics, thermal transfer and reaction time.
According to Nano One, the new agitator will improve the consistency and quality of CAM output.
The upgraded agitator and reactor design is full-scale, and the company said it is representative of the systems planned for future One-Pot enabled commercial-scale plants.
It will be used to support ongoing product validation and business development initiatives with some customers and commercial partners. This includes customers across the BESS sector.
The company also has five new patents for lithium-ferro-phosphate (LFP), nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC), and lithium-nickel-manganese-oxide (LNMO) cathodes.
Three of the firm’s patents are related to LFP technologies, including a US-issued and is for a synthesis method for olivine-structured lithium metal phosphate CAM.
The Korea-issued NMC patent is for Nano One’s M2CAM technology, using its sulphate-free process to make lithium battery cathode materials.
“The successful commissioning of the new equipment marks an important milestone in the further optimisation of the Candiac operations, which has been established as a One-Pot LFP demonstration production plant,” said Denis Geoffroy, chief commercialisation officer, Nano One. “The upgrade was achieved through the combined efforts of our engineering and production teams. With their decades of commercial experience, the teams have continued to focus on continuous improvement and cost competitiveness of the technology. This achievement underscores the scalability of the One-Pot process.”
