About:Energy has partnered with Munich-based EFT Mobility, part of Quantum Systems Group, to accelerate drone battery development using advanced simulation tools.
Quantum Systems is known for its high-performance unmanned aerial vehicles used in the defence, security and commercial sectors.
The collaboration enables EFT Mobility to streamline drone battery cell selection during early design phases, a critical step for optimising drone flight time, reliability and programme success. Traditionally reliant on limited manufacturer data and in-house testing, EFT Mobility will now use About:Energy’s modelling platform to simulate and compare high-performance cells – including Amprius variants – tailored to specific drone applications.
This shift has delivered significant efficiency gains. Cell shortlisting time was cut by six months, while pack development accelerated by three months thanks to scalable simulations. Thermal issue detection also improved by 20%, enhancing safety and performance.
“Drones face intense pressure to maximise flight time, safety and reliability, yet cell selection and validation are often slow, data-limited and costly,” said Dr Gavin White, co-founder and CEO of About:Energy. “Together we are proving that high-quality battery data and virtual prototyping cut guesswork, speed up design timelines and enable right-first-time decisions, transforming drone battery development.”
At About:Energy’s London facility, new cells are characterised and added to its database within four weeks, giving engineers rapid access to emerging technologies. The platform also predicts degradation issues – such as swelling in pouch cells – before they affect designs, enabling smarter decisions on cell selection, thermal strategies, and fast-charging protocols.
