Ideal Medical Solutions has partnered with the SER Group to deliver a nationwide programme for medical battery recycling.
The initiative, led by SER Group’s specialist recycling division Cellcycle, supports the safe and sustainable disposal of lithium batteries from primary batteries used in portable surgical devices across the UK.
Under the agreement, Cellcycle will manage the compliant collection, transport and recycling of batteries used in Ideal Medical’s surgical staplers and other devices. The process meets stringent environmental and safety standards, ensuring maximum material recovery and full regulatory compliance.
This medical battery recycling service offers healthcare providers a reliable route for battery disposal that reduces risk, supports sustainability goals, and contributes to a circular economy within the sector.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with the SER Group, to bring an innovative and sustainable battery recycling solution to the healthcare sector,” said Andrew Wakeling, CEO of Ideal Medical Solutions. “This collaboration represents a meaningful step forward in our mission to support greener, more responsible healthcare.”
Cellcycle operates Environment Agency–approved treatment facilities across the UK, with an annual permitted capacity of 80,000 tonnes. Its team of battery experts delivers tailored solutions for both portable and industrial waste streams, ensuring precision and security in handling even the most sensitive materials.
For the healthcare sector, this partnership marks a significant move toward operational resilience and environmental responsibility in managing battery waste.
