NineDot Energy has cut the ribbon on its largest battery energy storage system (BESS), a 19.6MW/78.3MWh development in Hunts Point, the Bronx, New York.
The company said the system would be fully operational in time for summer 2027, when it will supply power during periods of peak demand and support the local Con Edison distribution grid.
NYSERDA records show the development comprises four 4.896MW/19.584MWh lithium-ion systems on adjoining Casanova Street sites. The records identify CATL as the cell manufacturer and list combined state incentives of $9.8 million.
NineDot itself has not announced the project’s capacity
The company’s announcement did not disclose the project’s energy capacity, battery supplier or cost. Its website continued to list the Casanova project as under construction following the ribbon-cutting.
Adam Cohen, co-founder and chief technology officer at NineDot Energy, said: “Hunts Point has historically been overburdened by high-emitting fossil fuels, and this battery storage facility marks an inflection point in improving the local environment and grid reliability.”
The project occupies the former site of a fuel-oil trucking business. NineDot said the battery could help reduce dependence on nearby fossil-fuel peaking plants as electricity demand grows from the planned electrification of Hunts Point’s produce and fish markets and its commercial vehicle fleet.
The developer has 11 operating projects totalling 39MW across six locations in Staten Island and the Bronx. It is targeting 400MW of storage in operation, under construction or in development by the end of 2026, with more than 60 additional projects and a development pipeline exceeding 1GW.
NineDot’s nine operating battery projects exported almost 34MW during New York’s heatwave of 1–4 July 2026, according to the company.
