Business support agency Innovation Norway is giving Nkr995 million ($92 million) to support four domestic battery projects. It said the funding will contribute to innovation in the Norwegian and European battery value chain.
It is the largest funding it has ever made, said Håkon Haugli, CEO of Innovation Norway. It comes under Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) scheme. The projects include:
- Morrow Batteries is working on LNMO technology
- Vianode is developing advanced anode graphite solutions
- Beyonder has developed a high power sodium-ion cell
- Cenate makes silicon-based materials to replace graphite in lithium-ion batteries.
Separately, Norway entered into a strategic industrial partnership with the European Union, which includes raw materials and batteries. Industry minister Jan Christian Vestre said a key part of that has been finding a way for Norway to join in the development of EU policies and regulations. It is an associated member through EFTA.
Also, the Swedish Energy Agency is launching and funding a new networking group, the Battery Arena. It said it could enhance Sweden and the Nordics as a leading region within the global battery industry. It will gather industry, academia, policymakers and others.
