A new 10 MWh battery storage system in Nürtingen is moving ahead through a shared‑investment model involving Stadtwerke Nürtingen, ADS‑TEC Energy and the local citizens’ cooperative BEGiNT. Each partner holds an equal stake in the operating company, which will run the 5 MW installation.
The facility is being developed on Weberstraße on land provided by Stadtwerke Nürtingen, with commissioning expected by year‑end. The system is designed to take advantage of electricity‑market price swings while also supporting the integration of renewable power and easing pressure on the local grid.
“The partnership combines local roots with technological know‑how,” says Jonas Graßhoff of Stadtwerke Nürtingen GmbH. “This allows us to develop new business models related to flexibility and electricity markets.” ADS‑TEC Energy’s Michael Rudloff adds: “We are deliberately participating not only as a technology provider, but also as an investor and operator.” BEGiNT’s Klaus Seeger highlights the community value: “Citizens are not investing abstractly here, but in a concrete infrastructure project right on their doorstep.”
The initiative shows how wider participation in energy infrastructure can work, enabling residents without home solar or storage to take part in the energy transition. Through the cooperative model, local infrastructure becomes a shared regional asset.
Stadtwerke Nürtingen is supplying the site, managing the technical grid connection and contributing commercial and engineering expertise to the joint venture. Together, the partners aim to build a resilient, future‑proof energy system for the region.
