O2 Power, an Indian renewable energy company, has won a contract for an 800MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Rajasthan, India.
The contract was won through a bidding process started by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), through the Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE-IV) initiative.
The project includes both solar and other components to make sure there is supply during non-solar peak hours, it said.
The BESS will be located near a substation in Rajasthan owned by the Central Transmission Utility of India. It is expected to be made within 24 months after the power purchase agreement is signed, it said.
The company said the bid aligns with India’s renewable energy goals. This will include reaching 500GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and reducing the intensity of carbon emissions.
Parag Sharma, founder and CEO, said: “This project reinforces our commitment to driving India’s clean energy transition.”
O2 Power said its renewable energy portfolio goes above 6GW and spans multiple states. The company was acquired in December by JSW Energy for a total enterprise value of ₹12,468 crore ($1.47 billion).
